Jack Whaley Stuns World No. 23 to Win US Amateur and Secure 2027 Major Slots
Jack Whaley, a 22-year-old from Doncaster, England, defeated Jay Leng Jr. 4 and 3 in the 2026 US Amateur Championship final at Merion Golf Club. Despite being ranked 90th in the world amateur rankings and trailing by two holes after the first 18, Whaley staged a comeback to win. This victory makes him the first Englishman to claim the title since Matt Fitzpatrick in 2013. The win secures Whaley exemptions for the 2027 Masters, US Open, and The Open at St Andrews.
