Smoke from Canadian wildfires coats St. Louis area in unhealthy air
Wildfire smoke from Canada pushed through the St. Louis region, labeling the Metro East with one of the nation’s poorer air quality readings mid-morning and an AQI of 142 in St. Louis—unhealthy for sensitive groups. The main pollutant is fine particulate matter. Illinois EPA issued an air quality alert for multiple Metro East counties, advising limited outdoor activity for children, adults, and people with asthma.
