Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler will star in Universal's Miami Vice reboot, directed by Joseph Kosinski and titled Miami Vice ’85’. The film, slated for Aug. 6, 2027 and filmed in IMAX, reimagines the classic 80s detectives Rico Tubbs and Sonny Crockett, with a script by Dan Gilroy and producers including Kosinski and Dylan Clark.
Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice movie, titled Miami Vice ’85, has Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler officially onboard to play Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett; the period film set in mid-1980s Miami is produced by Dylan Clark with a script by Dan Gilroy, based on the NBC series created by Anthony Yerkovich. Universal Pictures is eyeing a summer 2027 release (Aug. 6), and Kosinski plans to shoot with IMAX cameras, continuing his string of high-gloss, big-screen thrillers.
