Kerr Breaks Mile World Record with Custom-Built Spike Aimed at World-Record Pace
Josh Kerr shattered the mile world record with a 3:42.66 in London, aided by a custom Brooks Hyperion 222 spike and a Project 222 speedsuit designed for four laps at world-record pace; the gear features a rocker-shaped sole, a stiff carbon plate, and titanium pins, all built to sustain maximum cadence with no gear changes and was approved by World Athletics. He shaved more than two seconds from his previous best (3:45.34), beating Yared Nuguse by over three seconds, in a campaign reminiscent of Nike’s Breaking2 efforts.
