Smallville's 25th Anniversary: Welling and Rosenbaum Reflect on Legacy and Creative Freedom
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum marked the 25th anniversary of 'Smallville' with a retrospective on the show's impact on superhero media. The series, which premiered in 2001, pioneered the origin-story format for TV superheroes. Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar emphasized their creative freedom to alter canon, such as making Clark and Lex friends, a liberty they say is impossible today. The show's legacy includes influencing the CW's Arrowverse and finding new audiences on Netflix.
