Bacteria linked to fatal pneumonia detected in Oregon’s biggest bighorn herd
ODFW reports that Oregon’s largest bighorn herd along the John Day River (about 1,000 animals) has tested positive for Mycoplasma ovip pneumoniae, a pneumonia-causing bacterium. Officials are tracing spread, identifying the strain, and forming management plans—with no vaccine available—while coordinating with tribal partners and continuing hunts and monitoring for chronic shedders.
