Synth-Pop Icon Peter Byrne Passes at 74 After Brief Illness
Peter Byrne, the co-founder and lead vocalist of the 1980s synth-pop duo Naked Eyes, has died at the age of 74. He passed away peacefully in Los Angeles on September 14 following a brief illness. Byrne is best known for his 1983 hit 'Always Something There to Remind Me,' which reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. Although the duo never achieved Top 40 success in the UK, they enjoyed significant popularity in the US and Australia during the MTV era. Byrne continued to record and tour under the Naked Eyes name after his partner Rob Fisher died in 1999, releasing new material as recently as 2021. A private family service is planned, and the band has asked fans to support his music in lieu of flowers.
