Red Sox put Rafaela on 10-day IL, call up Nate Eaton

Boston placed center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela on the 10-day injured list with a right quadriceps strain (retroactive to Sept. 3) and recalled Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester; Rafaela has been a key contributor (.282/.317/.443 with 16 HR, 17 SB) and elite center-field defense, and will miss at least a week while Willson Contreras is sidelined with a hamstring issue. Eaton will start in center for Sunday's game as Boston pursues a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles.

Samad Taylor Joins Kansas City Royals Roster

The Kansas City Royals have called up Samad Taylor from Triple-A Omaha and optioned down Nate Eaton. Taylor, who was acquired from the Blue Jays last summer, has been hitting .304/.409/.463 with six home runs and 34 steals in 62 games for Omaha this year. The 24-year-old can play second base and outfield and is known for his speed. Eaton has struggled offensively, going 3-for-52 with 21 strikeouts and three stolen bases.
