Navy confirms eight suicide attempts on USS Abraham Lincoln during record 286-day Iran deployment
Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao confirmed to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand that eight service members attempted suicide across the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group during its record-breaking deployment. The group, comprising 6,000 to 7,000 personnel, spent 286 days at sea supporting combat operations against Iran without port calls. While no service members died by suicide, the rate of attempts significantly exceeded typical deployment averages, which usually see one or two incidents per year. The carrier has since returned to its home port of San Diego after docking in Thailand in early September.
