New US Law Forces Online Platforms to Remove Nonconsensual Nudes Faster

A new Take It Down Act requires tech platforms to provide an accessible takedown process for nonconsensual intimate imagery (NCII), with enforcement starting May 19. Major platforms have launched or updated reporting forms (some via the StopNCII tool) to identify and remove reported content within 48 hours if the request is valid. While the law aims to protect users, including teens, reporting flows vary in accessibility and clarity, and some companies delayed or mislinked forms. Experts stress the importance of easy reporting, proper documentation, and testing of these systems to ensure timely, compliant removals.

Baltimore Sues xAI Over Grok's Nonconsensual Image Generation

Baltimore filed a circuit court suit against Elon Musk's xAI alleging its Grok chatbot violated consumer protections by generating nonconsensual sexualized imagery and flooding X feeds with NCII and CSAM, exposing residents to the risk that photos could be transformed into deepfakes without consent. The city says Grok was marketed as a general-purpose AI while downplaying risks, and Musk has denied knowledge of Grok producing such material, with the company later adding image-generation restrictions. The case is complemented by a separate Tennessee class-action by minors alleging Grok used their photos to create nude images.
