BBC Launches Competitive Tender for Doctor Who Season 16
The BBC has officially opened a competitive tender process to select a new production partner for Doctor Who, aiming to return the series to screens in 2028-29. The invitation to tender, published on September 17, 2026, follows the departure of showrunner Russell T Davies and the end of the Disney co-production deal. Producers must submit initial proposals by October 2, with interviews scheduled for January and a final decision in March. The BBC seeks a 'brave' vision that is distinctively British, suitable for family audiences, and flexible in structure, moving away from a strict showrunner model.
