Hawk Fire reaches Reno outskirts, forcing 90,000 evacuations with zero containment
The Hawk Fire, a human-caused blaze in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, has expanded to over 23 square miles with zero containment. Shifting winds have driven extreme fire behavior, forcing 42,000 residents to evacuate immediately and putting another 45,000 on alert. Six people, including three first responders, have been injured. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency, mobilizing the National Guard and 800 firefighters. Local casinos are offering discounted hotel rooms for displaced residents.
