SteamDB Finds a New Keeper as Nexus Mods’ Owners Take the Helm

SteamDB, the 13-year community-backed Steam data database, has been acquired by the owners of Nexus Mods (Chosen). Co-founders xPaw and Marlamin are stepping back due to burnout, with SteamDB remaining a standalone brand under new backing and a funded team. In the near term, users should see little change, but the deal aims to improve infrastructure, security, and long-term maintenance, while exploring closer integration with Nexus Mods and potential monetization through partnerships and affiliate links—all while keeping SteamDB free to access.

Elden Ring: Exciting Updates, Expansion-Sized Mod, and the Future of Shadow of the Erdtree

The Convergence mod for Elden Ring offers a comprehensive overhaul of the game, introducing 27 new classes, boss resurrection, teleportation system, crafting recipes, expanded dungeons, new bosses, equipment, and spells. The mod, available on NexusMods, provides a structured progression path for players and has been a significant undertaking, following the success of a similar mod for Dark Souls 3. This release should keep fans engaged until the anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, with potential updates hinting at an upcoming announcement.

Controversial Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Sparks Outrage and Removal

A homophobic mod for the popular role-playing game Baldur's Gate 3, which removed all LGBTQ+ references, was swiftly shut down by gamers and moderators. The mod, called "ser Aylin," made adjustments such as changing a lesbian character to male and removing character creation tools. It also removed people of color from the game. The mod was part of a broader "No Alphabets" mod pack that aimed to maintain a "medieval status quo." The mod was quickly removed from NexusMods, but may still be hosted on far-right platforms. NexusMods moderators stated that the mod violated their community guidelines and affirmed their commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

"Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Shatters D&D Levelling System with Level Cap Expansion"

A mod for Baldur's Gate 3 called 'Level 30' has extended the level cap to 30, more than double the current cap of 12, effectively breaking the Dungeons & Dragons rulebook. The mod allows players to multiclass or level up in a single class all the way to level 30, with increased experience gains and tripled combat experience. Cantrips are also increased by six times, resulting in significantly higher damage. While the mod covers all character classes, it may require another mod to work properly. However, uninstalling the mod will render character saves above level 12 unusable, as the game naturally caps at that level.
