Ducks Lock Up Leo Carlsson With Historic 5-Year, $90M Deal
The Anaheim Ducks matched the Philadelphia Flyers’ five-year, $90 million offer sheet for 21-year-old center Leo Carlsson, securing him at an average of $18 million per year—the richest contract in NHL history. Carlsson, who posted 29 goals, 38 assists and 67 points in 70 games last season, spoke of wanting to stay in Anaheim as the Ducks’ Pat Verbeek called him a franchise player and confirmed the team’s decision to match. If Ducks hadn’t matched, they would have received four first-round picks. The deal keeps Carlsson with Anaheim through the 2030-31 season, cementing his status as a cornerstone for the franchise.
