Families push for independent review after suspended lung doctor linked to patient harm
The Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust is expanding its review of care for more than 200 interstitial lung disease patients treated by suspended consultant Veronica Varney after a Royal College of Physicians review found off‑label, evidence-light advice that may have harmed patients, including discouraging flu vaccination and advising against rapeseed oil. Three premature deaths and lasting harm were linked to her treatment; the trust will review a further 203 cases, with families urging independent external oversight.
