Rookie Nick Morabito finally tallied his first MLB hit on his 13th at-bat and finished with a multihit night, highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run double in the seventh, plus a ninth-inning single and a diving catch, as the Mets routed the Rays 10-4 to clinch the series at Tropicana Field.
The Mets will promote Nick Morabito for his MLB debut, filling the roster spot created by Austin Slater’s DFA. Morabito, a 23-year-old outfield prospect (No. 75 in the 2022 draft), has slashed .253/.364/.390 with 4 home runs and strong baserunning in Triple-A Syracuse and is viewed as a speedy, versatile defender who can handle all three outfield spots. With Juan Soto leaning into DH time due to injuries and rookies Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing contributing, Morabito could carve out a depth role while remaining on the 40-man roster with three minor league option years remaining, keeping him under club control through 2032 depending on service time.
The Mets plan to promote outfield prospect Nick Morabito (No. 10 prospect) from Triple-A and designate Austin Slater for assignment to clear a 40-man roster slot. Morabito could debut in his hometown of Washington, D.C., and has posted a .755 OPS with 4 home runs and 14 stolen bases in Triple-A this season, with left-handed pitching likely to be a factor in his early role.
