Del Toro Bans AI in Pan’s Labyrinth 3D Re-release, Handcrafted for the 20th Anniversary
Guillermo del Toro announced there will be absolutely no AI used in the Pan’s Labyrinth 20th-anniversary re-release, which is being 3D- and HDR-converted by hand rather than with AI; the filmmaker says he chose depth and quality, and a documentary about the making of the original film is teased. The re-release opens Oct. 9 (also available in 2D HDR, Cineverse, and Fathom 4K), with tickets going on sale Sept. 9. The film follows Ofelia’s journey in a postwar Spain and previously earned six Oscar nominations with three wins; Cannes celebrated a 4K restoration earlier this year.
