Tragic End for Noor Jehan, Critically Ill Elephant at Pakistan Zoo.
Noor Jehan, a 17-year-old critically ill elephant, has died at Karachi Zoo in Pakistan. Animal welfare charity Four Paws, which had been treating her, has called for the zoo's closure and the transfer of its other elephant, Madhubala, to a more appropriate location. Elephants in captivity usually have a significantly lower life expectancy than those in the wild. The director of Karachi Zoo was removed from his role over complaints of negligence, and his successor has noted possible negligence over time.
