Russian general tied to Kyiv hospital attack shot in head
Major General Nikolai Varpakhovich, a Russian air force commander linked by Ukrainian outlets to the 2024 missile strike on Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt children’s hospital, was reportedly shot in the head near Engels in Russia. Kyiv’s security service had previously named him in absentia as responsible for the attack; Russia has not claimed responsibility. He is reported to be in critical condition as investigators pursue details of the shooting and the broader wartime context.
