Tel Aviv Rally Demands Independent Inquiry as Israel Approaches Election Deadlock
Thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday to demand an independent commission of inquiry into the security failures of October 7, 2023, just three days before the general election. The protest, organized by the October Council, featured opposition leaders including Gadi Eisenkot, who is currently neck and neck with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the polls. While Netanyahu’s government has refused to establish an independent body, offering instead a politically appointed commission, opposition figures vowed to boycott such a measure. The rally occurred amidst a tight electoral race where neither bloc is projected to secure a parliamentary majority, and against a backdrop of escalating violence in the West Bank and international sanctions.
