Amazon Takes on EU Online Content Rules in Major Tech Challenge
Amazon has challenged its inclusion in a group of companies subject to strict European Union online content rules, becoming the first Big Tech company to do so. The challenge comes in response to the Digital Services Act (DSA), which designates certain platforms as Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) and imposes additional obligations on them. Amazon argues that it does not meet the criteria for a VLOP and should not be subjected to the same requirements as its larger rivals. The European Commission has stated that it will defend its position in court.
