
Orange-lipped Colobus monkey discovered in DR Congo as a new species
Scientists have identified a new Colobus monkey in the Democratic Republic of Congo, locally known as Likweli, notable for its glossy black fur and distinctive orange-cream lips and deep roaring call. Weighing about 6.8 kg and spanning roughly 1,700 square kilometers, it’s considered endangered due to habitat loss and hunting, with most habitat inside Lomami National Park.
