As cars become more software-driven with over-the-air updates, their longevity depends on hardware staying compatible with new software, raising questions about maintenance, feature availability, and resale value as support may wane and some vehicles gain ongoing updates while others do not.
Kia has unveiled its upcoming flagship electric SUV, the EV9, which features over-the-air updates and purchases that can add features, services, and even extra torque after purchase. The EV9 is available in six- or seven-passenger configurations and features swiveling second-row buckets that can rotate to face the third-row or swivel outward for easier door access and loading of car seats. The SUV is estimated to have a range of up to 336 miles and will be offered with two battery options and in both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations. The EV9 is set to go on sale in select countries starting in the second half of 2023.
