U.S. and Philippines strengthen alliance against China.
The US has announced its intention to transfer four patrol boats to the Philippine Navy to support the country's modernization plan and maritime capabilities. The transfer includes two Island and two Protector-class patrol boats from the US Coast Guard. The vessels' classes have not been specified yet. The boats will join the Philippine Navy's Littoral Combat Force, responsible for missions close to the country's shores and internal waterways. The US and the Philippines are seeking closer naval ties amid tensions in the region, with a joint patrol in the South China Sea planned for later this year.
