Pedersen seals Stage 4 sprint as Traeen seizes the yellow jersey in scorching Tour de France
Mads Pedersen sprinted clear from a breakaway to win Stage 4, a 181.9km ride from Carcassonne to Foix in 40C heat, while Tadej Pogacar lost the yellow jersey to Uno-X’s Torstein Traeen after finishing eighth and now leads by 7 minutes 53 seconds. Quinn Simmons was runner-up and Raul Garcia Pierna third; Pogacar dropped to 33rd overall. The race tested cooling methods with ice blocks and ice-filled bags, and Traeen became the third Norwegian to wear yellow. Stage 5 is flat before the high Pyrenees.
