Measles exposure prompts health alerts near campus and local supermarket
Two people with measles may have exposed attendees at a Millersville University soccer camp (Aug 4–5) and at the Whole Foods Market in Manheim Township (Aug 12); the Pennsylvania Department of Health is conducting contact tracing and advising exposed individuals to monitor for symptoms, especially those who are unvaccinated. Lancaster County reports a measles outbreak with 167 cases this year (51 in the past two weeks), statewide 340 cases; nationally, 2,566 cases. Measles is highly contagious but preventable with two vaccine doses, which are about 97% effective.
