Squarespace cuts 19% of staff to streamline operations amid AI shifts
Squarespace is cutting approximately 19% of its workforce, affecting around 300 employees, to streamline operations and adapt to rapid changes in the web design industry driven by artificial intelligence. CEO Anthony Casalena stated that the restructuring aims to create smaller teams and a simplified organizational structure, with the majority of cuts impacting product and engineering departments. Affected employees will receive at least 16 weeks of base salary, continued benefits through May 2027, and career support. The move follows the company's acquisition by private equity firm Permira in 2024 and its recent launch of AI-powered tools like Blueprint.
