Researchers from the University of Chicago unveiled BloomBeacon, a mid-air POV display that uses two hinged, spinning arms—one lined with LEDs and the other with capacitive touch pads—creating a stable, touchable user interface via persistence of vision, allowing interactive elements like buttons to be touched safely while the blades rotate.
[mitxela] has created a tiny volumetric "electric candle" display using the persistence of vision concept. The display, made from salvaged parts including a motor from a CD drive, features an 8x10 array of surface-mount LEDs controlled by an RP2040 microcontroller. The project also includes a 3D-printed holder for a sensor and explores generating volumetric data and fluid dynamics calculations for a realistic flame effect.
Mitxela has created a prototype of a miniature volumetric display using an 8x10 LED matrix and various electronics, including a motor from a CD player.
