Solo Plane Crashes into Beijing's CITIC Tower, Authorities Cite Personal Reasons
A lone Sunward SA-60L Aurora crashed into Beijing’s CITIC Tower, killing the pilot and injuring 13 people. The impact damaged only glass panels with no major structural damage to the tower. The pilot, a 66-year-old Beijing resident, reportedly had ‘multiple expressions of ending his life,’ and authorities concluded the incident was a case of endangering public safety caused by personal reasons. The event prompted evacuations and heightened aviation scrutiny in China, where general aviation was suspended for a time as investigators looked into the crash.
