mRNA vaccine shows promise in preventing pancreatic cancer relapse.
BioNTech's personalised neoantigen pancreatic cancer vaccine, autogene cevumeran, led to an immune response in 50% of patients and prevented relapse in half of the patients in a Phase I trial. The vaccine uses individual tumour profiles to design each vaccine for a given patient. The T cell responses correlated with delayed disease recurrence, and a global randomised follow-up trial is planned. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive known cancers, with lethality in 88% of patients.
