President Biden's nominee for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) post, Phillip A. Washington, has withdrawn from consideration after facing criticism from Republican senators who questioned his aviation experience and connection to a corruption investigation in Los Angeles. The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation had delayed its vote on his nomination. The FAA has been without permanent leadership since 2021, and Mr. Washington would have been the first Black person confirmed as FAA administrator. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg expressed regret for the withdrawal of Mr. Washington's nomination.
