White House pulls ICE director nominee amid Rand Paul objections

The White House withdrew Lance Schroyer’s nomination to lead ICE, offering no reason; Sen. Rand Paul blocked the nomination, citing concerns about information provided regarding the Minnesota shootings by federal agents. Schroyer, Mullin’s top pick after Todd Lyons left, has decades in local law enforcement but no ICE experience. Acting ICE Director David Venturella is expected to stay on for now, with no comment from the White House or ICE.

Murkowski opposes Blanche, jeopardizing Trump’s attorney general nomination

Susan Collins and leaving Blanche’s confirmation precarious as Democrats are expected to vote no and Mitch McConnell is out. Cassidy remains undecided. The decision follows lingering concerns about the DOJ’s “anti-weaponization” fund and Blanche’s handling of Epstein-related matters, which had already complicated his confirmation process.

Trump taps Oklahoma veteran for ICE director post

President Trump announced he will nominate Lance Schroyer, a 29-year veteran of law enforcement who is a former Oklahoma State Trooper and Marine, to be the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, succeeding acting head David Venturella. Senate confirmation is anticipated but has been stalled for years, with supporters like Rep. Markwayne Mullin urging quick approval. The nomination emphasizes a hard-line stance on illegal immigration, though civil liberties groups have raised concerns about the broader impact of the crackdown.
