Spanish Archaeologists to Rescue 2500-Year-Old Phoenician Shipwreck

Spanish archaeologists have created detailed diagrams of a 2,500-year-old Phoenician shipwreck off the coast of Murcia to plan its rescue before it is destroyed by a storm. The Mazarron II, an eight-meter-long vessel, was recorded by scuba divers who documented its cracks and fissures. The experts will recommend how to protect and retrieve the wreck, which could involve extracting it piece by piece and reassembling it outside of the water. The ship, believed to have been made around 580 BC, is of historical significance as it sheds light on Phoenician trade routes and the transportation of metals.
