Tarantino's Stage Debut 'The Popinjay Cavalier' Sets West End Dates, Baron Cohen Confirmed
Quentin Tarantino’s first stage play, 'The Popinjay Cavalier,' will premiere at London’s Phoenix Theatre on March 18, 2027, starring Sacha Baron Cohen. The swashbuckling comedy, set in 1830s Europe, marks a theatrical debut for both the director and the actor. Produced by Sony Pictures and Sonia Friedman Productions, the play features a creative team including scenic designer Tom Pye and fight director Philip d’Orleans. Tickets start at £25, with over 16,000 seats priced under £50. The production is described as a 'rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise' inspired by classic Hollywood swashbucklers. Tarantino, who has made nine films, views this as his next major project before potentially retiring from filmmaking. Baron Cohen, known for characters like Borat and Ali G, expressed excitement about working with Tarantino, calling it a 'West End virginity' moment for both. The play will run for three months, closing on June 13, 2027, with previews beginning February 23.
