Devers vents after Vitello ramps up pinch-runner call in Giants' 2-1 loss
Rafael Devers expressed visible frustration after Giants manager Tony Vitello replaced him with pinch-runner Jonah Cox in the ninth inning of a 2-1 loss to the Miami Marlins in Miami. Devers, who had drawn a leadoff walk, argued as Cox entered, while Vitello said Devers’ leg issue and Cox’s speed gave SF their best chance to tie the game. Jung Hoo Lee flied out and Willy Adames hit into a game-ending double play, sealing the loss and a sweep. Logan Webb pitched eight solid innings for the Giants, who drop to 31-46 in Vitello’s first season as manager. Devers declined comment after the game, and Vitello emphasized they’re on good terms and talk daily.
