South Pasadena in California has become the first city in the US to replace its entire police fleet with Tesla vehicles. The city will lease 10 Model Y and 10 Model 3 Tesla vehicles for 60 months, as part of an infrastructure project that includes installing more electric vehicle charging stations. The move is part of the city's commitment to an environmentally stable future.
The South Pasadena Police Department in California will transition to an all-electric vehicle police fleet with the purchase of 20 Tesla vehicles, including 10 Model Ys and 10 Model 3s, and 30 charging ports. The department has been investigating this transition for five to six years and determined that electric vehicles will be the best operationally for them. The transition is expected to be complete by February 2024 and will bring cost savings and added benefits to officer safety.
