Fans desperate for Dune: Part Three IMAX 70mm screenings faced long waits and site crashes across AMC and Fandango as advance sales surged, with some grabbing tickets in person or reselling them for high prices, illustrating the growing premium-format demand reshaping moviegoing.
Avengers: Doomsday racked up $16.5 million in advance ticket sales after the first day on sale, aided by the trailer launch. Tickets were limited to premium formats in about 1,000 domestic theaters, with the release expanding to more than 4,000 North American screens over the opening weekend. Marvel/Disney also rolled out Infinity Vision certifications for premium screenings, while Imax won’t be available for the first three weeks due to Dune: Part III occupying that footprint. The holiday debut is anticipated to be blockbuster, with a 2027 Avengers: Secret Wars sequel planned.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will be shown in 70mm IMAX at 25 select U.S. theaters, a format in high demand with tickets selling out early. The film is the first narrative feature shot entirely with IMAX cameras, and if 70mm is unavailable, viewers can still opt for standard IMAX, non-IMAX 70mm, or Dolby Cinema as premium alternatives.
AMC’s early premium-format presales for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey have driven record first-day ticket sales for a major studio this year, led by IMAX, Dolby, and Prime formats, with more than 6 million premium-format tickets still available ahead of the July 17 release.
