NYC Mayor Adams faces backlash over proposal to house migrants in private residences
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing criticism for suggesting that private residences should take in migrants, with some calling the idea "absurd." Adams had previously announced a partnership with New York Disaster Interfaith Services to allow up to 50 houses of worship or faith-based spaces to offer overnight shelter for up to 19 single adult men at each location. The city will also open five off-site daytime centers to provide programming and support for asylum seekers during the day. However, Adams' suggestion to eventually move migrants into private residences has been met with backlash from some New Yorkers.
