Pakistan Refinery Limited's Reluctance to Process Russian Crude: Explained
Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) has expressed concerns about its ability to process larger quantities of Russian crude oil, hindering the previous government's efforts to reduce domestic fuel prices. The processing of Russian crude has been hampered by a shortage of foreign currency, limitations at Pakistan's refineries and ports, and the inability of local refineries to extract as much petrol and diesel from Urals crude as they do from Middle Eastern crudes. The first shipment of Russian crude did not result in significant savings for consumers, leading to speculation that the move to increase imports was a political stunt. PRL executives have not commented on the matter, and it is believed that the interim government may delay further imports until after the general elections.
