Cherokee Investment Arm Sues Emmitt Smith Over Diverted $2.5M Solar Loan
Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith faces a lawsuit from Kituwah LLC, the investment arm of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, alleging he and his business partner diverted a $2.5 million loan intended for a Texas solar project to repay a different entity. The complaint, filed in Delaware, claims the defendants used false projections to secure the funds and have not repaid the loan since its February 2024 due date. Kituwah seeks over $3 million, including interest, and describes the arrangement as a Ponzi-like scheme. No response from Smith's representatives has been received.
