Mount Sinai Health System temporarily stopped accepting new patients enrolled in certain government-subsidized plans (Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and Fidelis/EmblemHealth plans, including Fidelis plans via the ACA marketplace or Medicare Advantage) effective Aug. 1; the cutoff applied to anyone not seen by Mount Sinai since July 31, 2025, with exceptions for transplant, obstetrics and pediatrics. After inquiries from POLITICO, the hospital removed the notice from its site, saying the policy affects only new patients and reflects routine plan reviews and capacity. Insurers and patients have expressed concern about access to care amid the confusion.

Minnesota expands healthcare access for undocumented residents.

Minnesota is set to allow all undocumented residents to enroll in the state's publicly subsidized insurance program for low-income people, known as MinnesotaCare, under a budget agreement. The proposal will expand public health insurance access to the more than 40,000 undocumented people estimated to live in Minnesota and meet the program's income requirements. The state aims to begin enrolling undocumented residents in 2025. If passed, Minnesota could be the second state to allow all low-income people to enroll in public insurance, regardless of immigration status.
