Purja's Body Recovered as Broad Peak Rescue Faces Extreme Dangers
Rescuers have recovered Nirmal Purja’s body at about 5,700m on Broad Peak, with several other climbers’ remains located as eight of the ten victims from the July avalanche are accounted for. Some bodies remain around 5,000m amid perilous terrain, and a high-risk long-line helicopter retrieval is being considered with the Pakistan Army, though pilot safety and terrain constraints could block such operations. Families seek remains for funeral rites, highlighting the human stakes alongside the rescuers’ dangers.
