FTC warns of QR code phishing scams stealing personal data
The FTC has issued a warning about QR code scams, highlighting the potential for bad actors to use QR codes to obtain sensitive information or money. Cybersecurity company Trellix found over 60,000 instances of QR code attacks in Q3 2021. Scams include impersonating payroll and HR personnel and postal scams. To avoid falling victim to these scams, the FTC advises ignoring unexpected messages with urgent requests, checking the URL before scanning a QR code, updating devices, using strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, and avoiding downloading QR code scanning apps.
