Dylan Thornton, a MARS Championship Series rookie, led all 40 laps at Highland Speedway (Highland, IL) to win the feature and a $5,000 payday, his third series victory of the season, fending off veteran challengers Ryan Unzicker and Jason Feger as two early cautions slowed the race; Thornton’s dominant performance and traffic mastery keep him near the top of the standings ahead of the next event at Fairbury.
Ryan Blaney won the Cup race at Phoenix Raceway, with three drivers rising (Bubba Wallace, Erik Jones, Shane van Gisbergen) and three slipping (Joey Logano, Daniel Suárez, Austin Cindric), setting up a Vegas showdown at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next weekend.
William Byron won the Cup race at Martinsville Speedway, with Kyle Larson finishing 2nd and all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers finishing inside the top 10. Scott Dixon wins the IndyCar race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, securing his 19th consecutive season with a victory on the road course. Despite being spun on Lap 1 and making an early pit stop, Dixon's patience and team strategy allowed him to hold off Graham Rahal and take the checkered flag by less than half a second. With this win, Dixon moves into second place in the series points race, 101 points behind leader Alex Palou. Pato O'Ward completes the podium, followed by Christian Lundgaard and Alexander Rossi.
Alex Palou secured his third consecutive victory in the IndyCar championship at Mid-Ohio, taking control during the middle stint of the race and holding off pole-sitter Colton Herta. Herta suffered misfortune once again, this time with a pitlane speeding penalty that cost him a podium finish. Marcus Ericsson and Felix Rosenqvist were involved in a collision, with Ericsson's car briefly flying over Rosenqvist's. Palou's win extends his lead in the championship standings.
