PGA TOUR Launches Challenger Series to Elevate the Next Wave

The PGA Tour unveils a two-series model for 2028, introducing the PGA TOUR Challenger Series alongside the PGA TOUR Championship Series. The Challenger Series will run at least 20 events with $4M-plus purses from February to August (including about seven events during Championship Series off weeks), using a 72-hole format with a 36-hole cut and its own season-long points system. At least 20 players from the Challenger Series will be promoted to the Championship Series each year, with a fall “last chance” series for others and additional paths via multiple wins or by winning a major. Top 90 in Championship Series points retain status; relegation between series will be defined later. Eligibility follows the current exempt/conditional framework; majors do not count toward Challenger Series event totals, but points can be earned for majors if eligible. Q-School remains to grant access to Challenger Series and other pathways, and Championship Series members cannot participate in the Challenger Series.

West Ham’s relegation nightmare: a leadership vacuum and a costly exodus

West Ham United are relegated to the Championship after a chaotic season defined by a leadership vacuum following Moyes’s exit, a failed coaching reboot that saw Potter replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo, and ongoing disputes behind the scenes. The club’s recruitment was scattergun, morale plummeted, and a mass player exodus (including Antonio, Cresswell, Coufal, Paqueta and others) left the squad thin and leaderless. With about £150m to raise from player sales to fund a rebuild, and protests against the board intensifying, West Ham face a long, challenging road back to the top flight.

Final-day drama: Spurs stay up as West Ham drop to the Championship

Tottenham Hotspur secured Premier League safety with a 1-0 win over Everton on the final day while West Ham United were relegated after Leeds’ 3-0 win, triggering boos and protests from West Ham fans directed at owner Sullivan. The relegation raises questions about West Ham’s future and potential departures to fund a summer rebuild, with Nuno’s future at the club in doubt, while Tottenham’s survival keeps them in the top flight and highlights the impact of Roberto De Zerbi’s direction as they plan to strengthen the squad to avoid a repeat of this drama.

De Zerbi: Spurs still alive after Chelsea defeat as relegation race goes to final day

Tottenham fell 2-1 to Chelsea, keeping their relegation hopes alive with a final-day home game against Everton; De Zerbi said his players produced a good performance, pointed to defensive lapses and Enzo Fernandez’s strike, and stressed there isn’t time to overthink it as Spurs prepare for the last match with optimism they can stay up.

NBA’s '3-2-1' Lottery Aims to Stop Tanking, but Could Hurt Bad Teams

The NBA is proposing a '3-2-1' lottery reform that expands the draft lottery to 16 teams, creates a relegation zone for the bottom three and adjusts odds to curb tanking, with a May 28 Board of Governors vote and a sunset through 2029. Critics warn the plan could punish genuinely bad teams and cause unintended consequences, potentially hurting teams that aren’t actively tanking while not fully solving the tanking issue.

Leicester City's fall to League One ends a decade of top-flight highs

Leicester City were relegated to League One after a chaotic night in which Hull City’s Oli McBurnie condemned them with a late equaliser, following a costly first-half goalkeeping error by Asmir Begovic and a Jordan James penalty that had briefly levelled the match. The relegation comes amid a six-point deduction for financial breaches, and fans jeered the board as manager Gary Rowett accepted accountability for the plight.

Leicester City Provisionally Relegated to League One After Six-Point Deduction

Leicester City are provisionally relegated from the Championship to League One next season after a six-point deduction for breaching the EFL's profitability and sustainability rules. A 2-2 draw with Hull left them 23rd with two games to play, dependent on possible West Bromwich Albion points deductions; they will join Sheffield Wednesday in League One next term as part of a historic decline from their 2016 title-winning era.

Brighton stoppage-time stunner keeps Spurs in relegation mix

Georginio Rutter's stoppage-time equaliser denied Tottenham a crucial win against Brighton, leaving Spurs one point above the relegation zone with five games remaining in the Premier League. Brighton had briefly led thanks to Xavi Simons’ strike, and Tottenham’s 15-match winless run in the league compounds their fears as they prepare for tougher fixtures (Wolves, then Villa and Chelsea) while rivals Nottingham Forest and West Ham look to close in.

Leeds’ Old Trafford win injects lifeline into the relegation fight

Leeds United beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford to reach 36 points, six clear of the relegation zone with six games left, thanks to Noah Okafor’s brace; Casemiro scored for United but it wasn’t enough, giving Leeds a crucial psychological boost and increasing pressure on Spurs, West Ham and Nottingham Forest as the survival battle intensifies.

De Zerbi's seven-game sprint to save Tottenham

Tottenham are close to appointing Roberto De Zerbi as head coach, giving him seven Premier League matches to pull them out of a relegation battle after sitting 17th. If confirmed, his first fixtures would include Sunderland away and Brighton at home, with Leeds, Everton, Wolves, Aston Villa and Chelsea to follow. The appointment would bring a clear, attacking style and valuable top-flight experience, but success depends on stable club structure and alignment among management, owners and football operations to implement his system.

Ten-man Spurs crumble as Palace strike to deepen relegation fears

Tottenham’s hopes of stopping a slide were derailed when captain Micky van de Ven was sent off, leaving Spurs a goal behind at halftime. Crystal Palace surged with a brutal three-goal burst and, after a late spot-kick equaliser, added more to seal a heavy comeback. Tudor’s attempted system tweak failed to spark a meaningful response, and Spurs’ fragile defense capitulated as they dropped toward the relegation zone with a demanding run-in and ongoing questions about the club’s direction.
