Rhaenyra’s Tyrant Turn Sparks Daenerys Echoes in Dragon Finale
In the House of the Dragon Season 3 finale, Rhaenyra embraces a tyrannical, self-styled savior role, declaring herself the Prince That Was Promised and rejecting the realm’s religion. Co-creator Ryan Condal says parallels to Daenerys exist but aren’t identical: Daenerys reached the Iron Throne after destruction, while Rhaenyra is altered by power she’s already seized. The controversial crowd speech is a TV invention, not in Fire & Blood, which is a historical record with varying narrators. The ending also deepens Rhaenyra’s brutal arc, including Helaena’s suicide, and sets up Season 4 (2028) as the show’s largest chapter.
