FX’s The Bear stealth-dropped a surprise hour-long flashback special called “Gary” on Disney+/Hulu, pairing Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal to explore Richie and Mikey’s relationship and deepen Richie's backstory ahead of Season 5. "The Bear" Season 2 explores the struggles of its characters to find fulfillment in their passion and profession within a capitalistic system. Carmy's arc is defined by his compulsion to cook, which he loves but doesn't find fun. He opens his own restaurant and finds love with Claire, but ultimately concludes that he doesn't deserve amusement or enjoyment and locks himself away from the joy of his staff and guests. Richie's arc is the most practical and endearing, as he transforms into a new man and finds his purpose to provide for his daughter. The season is full of relatable character traits and satisfying ingredients baked in elsewhere.
