Pope Leo XIV Receives Custom White Sox Mitre After Vatican Meeting
Pope Leo XIV received a custom White Sox 'pope hat' during a meeting with Rev. Tom McCarthy at the Vatican on August 26, 2026. The gift, which included a jersey and signed card, followed a sold-out game at Rate Field where 40,000 fans received similar hats. The pontiff, a Chicago native, expressed enjoyment of the gifts but lamented the team's 5-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
