Unreleased Punch‑Out prototype surfaces, revealing early roster and missing content
A folding-backstage Punch-Out prototype cartridge has surfaced, with the ROM dumped online after a former Nintendo of America employee sold it for $45,000. The unfinished build lacks sound data, includes only four fighters (Glass Joe, Bald Bull, King Hippo, Don Flamenco) in a fixed order and loops after a password post‑Don Flamenco. It also reveals arcade guest stars Piston Hurricane and Pizza Pasta (not present in the NES version) and hints at other unknown fighters like Rockyhead and Mongol Khan; there are debug features to cycle through unfinished opponents. The Video Game History Foundation highlighted the prototype in a new video.
