Giants veteran Ron Wotus ejected before Saturday doubleheader opener
Ron Wotus was ejected before the start of Game 1 of the San Francisco Giants' doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The incident stemmed from lingering tensions following a 10-6 loss on Friday, where Giants manager Tony Vitello and pitcher Logan Webb were ejected after a dispute with home-plate umpire Alan Porter. Vitello described the conflict as 'personal,' while Webb, who was not pitching, was ejected for the first time in his career after defending his rookie manager and starter. The friction escalated from controversial calls in the third inning, including a fair-ball ruling on Nolan Arenado and a missed strike on Lars Nootbarr. Porter missed 21 calls during the Friday game, according to Umpire Auditor. Vitello, in his first professional season, left the postgame interview early, citing a need to 'get organized.'
